Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers to common questions about Sceptrum.

General

What is Sceptrum?
Sceptrum is an AI-native privacy monitor for Windows that gives you complete visibility and control over what your applications do. It monitors camera, microphone, file access, network activity, and detects AI API calls—all without sending your data to the cloud.
How much does Sceptrum cost?
Sceptrum is currently in private beta and available free to beta users. Pricing for the public release hasn't been announced yet. Join our waitlist to get early access.
Is Sceptrum open source?
While Sceptrum itself is not open source, we're committed to transparency. Our documentation and security practices are publicly available, and we're exploring selective open sourcing of components in the future.

Installation & Setup

What are the system requirements?
Windows 10 (21H2) or later, 2GB RAM minimum (4GB recommended), 50MB free disk space, and administrator access for installation.
Can I install Sceptrum on multiple computers?
Yes. Each installation is independent and local to that computer. You can install Sceptrum on as many Windows machines as you own.
Does Sceptrum slow down my computer?
No. Sceptrum is optimized to use less than 1% CPU and around 60MB of RAM. It runs quietly in the background with minimal performance impact.

Privacy & Security

Does Sceptrum collect my personal data?
No. All monitoring happens locally on your device. Activity logs never leave your computer unless you explicitly enable cloud sync. We never sell your data or share it with third parties.
What encryption does Sceptrum use?
All data at rest is encrypted with AES-256. Data in transit uses TLS 1.3. Your activity logs remain encrypted and secure on your device.
Can Sceptrum prevent malware?
Sceptrum is not a full antivirus. It detects suspicious behavior like ransomware (rapid file modifications) but should be used alongside Windows Defender for complete protection.

Features & Usage

What is "AI-aware detection"?
AI-aware detection identifies when applications make calls to LLM APIs and other AI services. You can see exactly which apps are sending data to OpenAI, Anthropic, or other AI providers, and set rules to control or block these connections.
How do I block an app from accessing my camera?
Open Sceptrum, go to the Permissions tab, find the app in the list, and change its status from "Allow" to "Block". The app will no longer be able to access your camera.
Can I limit AI network bandwidth?
Yes. In Settings under AI Network Rules, you can set bandwidth limits for LLM traffic, block specific endpoints, or whitelist trusted services.
